I deleted the pictures I originally uploaded into the POST pages and then clicked on the little picture upload icon at the top of the page. Then set the image to 'featured' in the menu. The problem I was having before was that I was clicking on the link at the bottom right of the POST edit page. Duh! The only way to make a sliding door menu point to a category, is to make a page, put the image as the featured image for that page, and then use the page links to plug-in to link that page to the category that you want. It's a bit of a workaround, you can read more about it at the support site.
