**solved** drop downs stopped wroking **solved**

Postby Sakecat » Mon Jul 30, 2012 4:30 am

Even though i solved this I am going to post it any way for 2 reasons.

A. Show the solution if any one else has this prolbem.
B. Show that you need to be a little tenacious.

Since i updated the theme my drop down menus have stopped working. While I have played with a little code on the website in the past I could have caused a error that way. How ever I doubt it, shouldn't the update overwrite any code that I may have placed directly into the theme beside the only code i inserted was a link to a image. I also lost my header but this is Ok as know i can make a single header image that will look better and wont get dropped when i update the theme in the future Good improvement. I have tried to celar my cashe and reload the page no joy. Any chance you can take a look at this Wayne and tell me where the screw up is. Site is http://WWW.Sakecat.com code I think governs this in the theme is as follows. If this is incorrect please tell me what file i need to get you the code from.

Code: Select all
 * The Header for our theme.
 * Displays all of the <head> section and everything up till <div id="main">
 * @package WordPress
 * @subpackage Sliding_Door
 * @since Sliding Door 1.0

So whats the word is the code messing up the drop down or is it some thing else. there is a new file in the recent word press update called header that is for backwards compatibility could it be that file I have not seen that file before now. Any help is appreciated. The next thing i may try is a fresh install and a new update

The solution to this is stupid easy. In recent word press updates they manage your primary menu with a visual editor of sorts. In old Word Press formats to manage your primary menue you mad a parent page that would appear on the menue and then child pages that were displayed on the menue as drop downs. If you updated your theme you may lose the drop downs leading to the child pages after your as the theme update made it compliant with the new wordpress menue management tool. GTFO Righ I know Fing easy and i was digging in code the whole time.

When you have problem keep at it the answer often appears when you just look at it from a different angle.

Yes wordpress keeps getting better and better but that means the theme updates sometimes have to incorporate new ways of doing things!

I’m building a WordPress web site using your Sliding Door template.
I have a couple of problems I can’t solve, and I hope you can help me (I’m not a programmer or web designer).

I have created a menu called “Main Navigation”. This is the second menu, not the Slider menu.
In “Pages > All Pages” I have created a Parent and Child hierarchy, and I can see this when I go to Appearances > Menus.
However, one of the Parent pages (“Legal”) doesn’t show up in the Menus default selection. Also, when I preview the site, all the Child pages are visible in the nav bar next to the Parent pages, instead of being in the drop down menus when you hover your mouse over a Parent page. I can see the Legal page and the correct hierarchy when I click “Show All” in “Menus” and I select all the pages and say “Add to Menu” and “Save Menu” but when I refresh the web site, the changes don’t take. The Child pages are still visible.
Please tell me how to fix this.
