Fixed width for picture perfect site

Postby imacg5 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 5:26 am

I would like to set a fixed with site with Picture perfect. I have tried every method available but none seem to work with picture perfect. I have reviewed all topics including the advanced section and no one seems to have asked this question before.

So....instead of an expanding fluid site as picture perfect stands now....is there a way to fix the width of the entire site to say....1200 px....

Thank you for any assistance....im new (two weeks) at wordpress and this has been my biggest stumbling block so far....

And a great theme it is....

A little headway made....

in the style.css, body section....
i changed min-width: 1024px; to max-width: 1024px
i then added margin-left: auto; and margin-right: auto;

in the #wrapper i added a line "width:1024px"

now when i drag the window wider the content, header, and right sidebar stay fixed relative to each other and acts as if it is fixed and not fluid/liquid....

only problem is the imageMenu on the left stays hard left and does not move with the rest of the page as it opens...

ive looked in the style.css....ive looked in the imageMenu.css....ive looked in the header.php but i cant seem to get the imageMenu to move in relationship to the content header and sidebar...any ideas would be greatly appreciated....

3/4 of the way there....just need to get that imageMenu to go with the rest of the page as it slides left and right....

Do I get a double Woot!

two changes to make to turn picture perfect into a fixed website that will open centered with expanding left and right margings and no change in content format....

go into the imageMenu.css file located on your server and replace the #imageMunu with the following:

#imageMenu {

width: 240px; /*overall image container width*/
overflow: hidden;
background-color: #000;
border-style: none;
height: 708px; /*overall container height*/
float: left;
text-align: left;
border-bottom-style: solid;
border-bottom-width: 1px;
left: 24px;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
position: relative;
padding: 0;
}

in the style.css go in and replace the body with this:

body {
position:top center;
text-align: center;
color: #980000;
font-family: "Lucida Grande",Tahoma,"Lucida Sans Unicode",Verdana,sans-serif;
background-image: url("put address of your background url here/bg.jpg");
background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-position:top center;
background-attachment:fixed;
background-color: black;
min-width: 1000px;
max-width: 1000px;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}

insert the url of your background image if required and you are golden....

glad thats over....lol

thanks for posting your fix. Do your photos resize with the window? Mine
stay fixed no matter what size the window so they overlap the right column.
I tried your fix but it didn't help. Do you know what I should do?
thanks!

#imageMenu {
width: 240px; /*overall image container width*/
overflow: hidden;
background-color: #000;
border-style: none;
height: 708px; /*overall container height*/
float: left;
text-align: left;
border-bottom-style: solid;
border-bottom-width: 1px;
left: 24px;
position: fixed;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}

this is the portion of the imageMenu.css file that you need to change....see the double woot post above?....delete this section i pasted here....copy and paste the section from my double woot post where you just deleted your current section...reload the imageMenu.css back into the same location on your server and it should work....

you will need a text editor to do this....text edit will work fine....

let me know if you have any other questions....im pretty sure this will fix it if you already made the changes to the body section...

go onto your server with ftp program....

locate the imageMenu.css file

thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Just so I'm clear though.
I only past in the change from your last post or I also add the changes
from your original post? I actually did try your original post though and
it didn't work for me. So shall I try just changing the one from your last?

thanks!

this will get it done....the other changes i had sent earlier didnt solve the problem....was just like yours.....

i found that making these two changes would solve the problem....

go into the imageMenu.css file located on your server and replace the #imageMunu portion of the css with the following:
--------------------------------------------------------
#imageMenu {

width: 240px; /*overall image container width*/
overflow: hidden;
background-color: #000;
border-style: none;
height: 708px; /*overall container height*/
float: left;
text-align: left;
border-bottom-style: solid;
border-bottom-width: 1px;
left: 24px;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
position: relative;
padding: 0;
}
---------------------------------------------
if you look at what you have there now you will see that everything below the line left: 24px is different so it easier just to cut and paste the whole section so it wont get confusing....

once that is saved on your server go to your dashboard and in the style.css and replace the body{ section with the below.... :
----------------------------------------------

body {
position:top center;
text-align: center;
color: #980000;
font-family: "Lucida Grande",Tahoma,"Lucida Sans Unicode",Verdana,sans-serif;
background-image: url("put address of your background url here/bg.jpg");
background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-position:top center;
background-attachment:fixed;
background-color: black;
min-width: 1000px;
max-width: 1000px;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}

---------------------------------------------------------

thats it....just those two cut and paste.....change the max-width:1000px and min-width:1000px with the width of the page you will like to have....1200....1240...what ever is required....

if you dont have a background image you should delete the background-image: url line as well....other than that its a one size fits all solution....works for our page anyway....

hope this helps....
