Getting Started

Postby wayne » Thu Nov 20, 2008 1:39 pm

Getting Started.

1. Download the theme and activate it from wordpress.
2. Go into Appearance - Menus and Create a New menu and add 7 Pages or Categories to it.
3. A new dropdown will appear on the left called 'Sliding Navigation' - Select your new menu here.
4. To change the images, change them in photoshop. The need to be 320×200 in size or it won’t work. You can download the original photo shop file from the theme homepage. The titles in the images are changed by editing the image in photoshop. Try to make the filesize small - in photoshop you do this by 'save for web' and choose medium or low quality - not high.
5. Go to a post that is in your main menu and select 'upload image' then select the image you want to upload and select 'use as featured image'.
6. If you want to customise the theme, make sure you use a child theme rather than directly change the sliding door theme - there's great instructions here: http://op111.net/53/

Enjoy!

Hmm... I just upgraded and am having a similar problem. Not only are the pictures linking to incorrect areas, but there are Page "titles" showing up on the photos. Yikes! Oh well, the site needs some cleaning up anyway. If I really get stuck, I'll be back here for help.

Here's the url in case anyone wants to give advice: http://www.TatianaTheDog.com

Thanks!

Unable to remove titles so far. When I "view source" I can see exactly what needs to be changed, but I cannot find this code either via FTP or via WP-Admin, and so am unable to edit it.

<div id="imageMenu">
<ul>
<li class="page_item bk1"><a href="http://www.TatianaTheDog.com/?page_id=8" title="Tatiana&#8217;s Store">Tatiana&#8217;s Store</a></li>
<li class="page_item bk2"><a href="http://www.TatianaTheDog.com/?page_id=117" title="Interesting &amp; Inspirational Links">Interesting &#038; Inspirational Links</a></li>
<li class="page_item bk3"><a href="http://www.TatianaTheDog.com/?page_id=200" title="Case Study: Tatiana The Dog">Case Study: Tatiana The Dog</a></li>
<li class="page_item bk4"><a href="http://www.TatianaTheDog.com/?page_id=212" title="Make Your Photos Talk!">Make Your Photos Talk!</a></li>
<li class="page_item bk5"><a href="" title=""></a></li><li class="page_item bk6"><a href="" title=""></a></li><li class="page_item bk7"><a href="" title=""></a></li> </ul>
</div> <!-- END imagemenu -->

All I need to do is remove the title attributes, correct the page id numbers, and add category numbers where appropriate.

I can see something similar if I go to WP-Admin > Appearance > Editor > Theme Functions -- but this just shows default info that is used if you do not have any of your own pages:

if ($count < 4)
echo '<!-- default links - these are not used if you have your own pages-->

<li class="bk1"><a href="http://mac-host.com/install.html">About</a></li>
<li class="bk2"><a href="http://mac-host.com/install.html">Weddings</a></li>
<li class="bk3"><a href="http://mac-host.com/support">Places</a></li>
<li class="bk4"><a href="http://mac-host.com/install.html">Food</a></li>
<li class="bk5"><a href="http://dubbo.org">People</a></li>
<li class="bk6"><a href="http://macintoshhowto.com">Nature</a></li>
<li class="bk7"><a href="http://7.barracks.cl">Architecture</a></li>

I looked at all the php files that are accessible from the Editor, and none of them contain the information I need to edit.

I spent hours last night searching on this forum and on wordpress.org searching for a way to edit the "view source" file, which appears to be an index.html file, but found no answers. Seems to be a Wordpress limitation.

Ah-ha! Found another thread which helped me hide of those ANNOYING titles!!

#imageMenu ul li a {
/* change to text-indent: -1000px; if you want to use images in the menu instead of text*/

Thank you to webuser for the answer.

I'm still not sure how I will correct the issue of the photos having the incorrect pages linked to them, though...

Point 5 is unclear to me

Postby Spirited » Tue Aug 30, 2011 1:40 am

5. Go to a post that is in your main menu and select 'upload image' then select the image you want to upload and select 'use as featured image'.[/b]

a) I don't have a post, I have not been instructed to create a post. Where would a post be inside a main menu anyway? Can you help me navigate to this place?

b) So in what location do I find the option 'upload image" and 'use as featured image?

I am lost here. Please help.
