There are allot of people in this forum that really like this theme and I don't mind saying that we would like to keep it going. The unique thing is that the lack of support has led the small community on this forum to be very

1. More technically able than most WP communities
2. Much more wiling to dig into code and make changes
3. Much more supportive of each other in general

Now I don't want this to sound like a slant but If your not going to support it would you consider stepping down and transferring the rights. I have donated to you in the past and I am sure some still do as they implement these themes. I don't want to switch to a paid theme and I don't want to be a know nothing webmaster. But i do want some one to turn to for help when i need it. I would Like to propose migrating this forum to another site and letting some one else update the theme to be more compliant with the current version of Word Press and allowing them to benefit from any continued income it generates.

I understand that you have moved on to ministering full time and that this is not really part of your life any more but the themes need attention to live on.

New word press features like manually setting a navigation menu link to go to a outside URL under the appearance section of the admin panel does not fit with the current way this theme handles the slider photos. I mention this directly because here I am adding a PHPBB3 forum to my site and i want one of sliders to link directly the forum and well the menue editor allows me to make the link easily but i lose the photo because the photos are tied directly to a page.

So know i need to dig into the Java, html, or Php to try to figure out how to make it work again and while i don't mind doing it I need some direction. With your permission I would like to ask some folks on the WP site to fill the void you left on this website thanks a bunch and thanks again for the awesome theme.

Sadly that's true!

You could set a URL directly but then you have no slider image and there's no way to specify the slider image.

One option is to MANUALLY setting the slider image, which is what the old version did, but that was causing people much grief.. Some people cannot use ftp etc so I needed a way to be able to do it all from within wordpress aka the 'featured image' But now you can't set the URL separately. I think this way is better. The workaround is that you can just use 'page links to' plugin to link to an external link. So it achieves the same functionality.

I'm very happy for someone to take the 'Picture Perfect' theme and run with it if they want! Just message me.

I still use Sliding Door on one of my own websites so I'd like to keep control of it. So far as I know there are no bugs in it.

I check the forums every month or two and have done for the past 3 or 4 years. I generally only answer the questions that I think no one else can answer though.

Thanks for your contributions Sakecat - most people don't' hang round as long as you do!

In terms of 'continued income' it's not a huge money raiser...
3 donations in 2010,
4 in 2011,
3 in 2012 so far... ranging from $5 - $75.

That's 4 donations out of 100,000 downloads per year!

Wayne, Thanks for the posts. I really had to sit on my hands yesterday to not say anything. Just a story first.

I sell in a retail store and buy from "pickers". One day a picker was in my store selling me stuff. A customer came in and asked me for a item, which I didn't have. The picker piped up and said he may have it and they exchanged phone numbers. To me that was the lowest of the lows, to come into my business and try to steal customers. I never bought from them (those individual pickers) again and consider them scum of the earth. nuff said

Second. I have been reading this forum for a while. Your theme (sliding door) works as written. Most questions come from either newbies where the questions are already answered 100 times. The other questions come from those that have altered the code. Once someone alters the code it becomes their theme. To ask for you to dig into their code and correct the mistake would be a full time job. I had to do something to my page that was over my head and I paid someone to do it. I paid someone to do some of my pictures. Which leads me to my third point, and I donated

Third. I was going to ask that you say how much donations you received. I knew it would be ugly but that is pitiful. I donated twice this year so that makes it even worst. I have looked at many, many sites that use this theme. NOT EVEN $10, come on guys. I'm sure Wayne likes the"Love the Page" comments but try putting that on a plate and eating it.

Lastly, the people that could actually help others with others code mistakes don't stay on the forum to help. Maybe they don't want to work for nothing, they just expect Wayne to. Ahhhhhh, enough said, just had to get it off my chest.

Update; After reading this I wanted to add that this has nothing to do with the original post. It pertains to posts that have been removed. Sakecat has been a great help on the board and has valid concerns. Sorry to jump on your thread.

Thanks krickets, glad the theme is useful!!!

And I noticed you've been giving heaps of advice to people - thanks!

I have a new version of the theme finished, 3.0 and it has lots of things that I've added after feedback from the forums. You can set a checkbox and the sliders stay open on the page you're on, the ugly purple links are gone, you can upload an image and it will replace the heading, and you can change the colour scheme to black on white. It will also automatically check if you don't have the 'page-links-to' plugin and prompt you to install it. All that will help people with installation hopefully!

The 'light' color scheme version of it is here: http://mac-host.com/slidingdoor if you want to post any feedback.

It's been submitted to wordpress - waiting for approval.

You are right, once you customise a theme it becomes 'your' theme and you really need to choose whether to (1) use it as is (2) pay someone else to develop it (3) learn php and html yourself!!!!

If you are customising a theme yourself you need to allow plenty of time to sort out bugs. Some google searching will be as good as anything. I've fixed the search facility on this site so hopefully that will help too.

Cheers!

First I would like to say I have been working under a assumption that you dont check these forums at all any more. Now I don't mind saying that this idea was perpetuated to start with by some folks other than me. How ever I am guilty of adopting it. I wold like to humbly suggest that you check back in a little more often than you do. The very fact that I could assume this to be correct says allot. how ever I accept your answer and appreciate all the help you have given in the past hope your around to help in the future because I am sure I will need it. I plan to be the owner of a vibrant and welcoming web community one day and all of this is just part of the learning process. I have donated to Wayne for building the theme and I suggest any one that comes to this forum do the same if everyone just pitched in 10$ it would be huge. I am certainly not made of money and cant afford to throw a bunch of cash his way but anyone can affor 10 to 15 bucks.

@ kricket no worries man i know that allot of what you were saying was not directed at me and I also know that you mean the best but your comments do require one rebuttal on my part. I feel being a web master and not knowing a little code is like being a ships captain and not knowing a little swimming. Sure you could do it but I think you would be silly to do so. I plan to jump in and help when ever i can with the easy questions in this forum so that wayne can concentrate on the hard ones dare I even say focus his attention on code ?'s.
