First item container size issue

First item container size issue

The box containing the first (top) post stretches to equal the widget sidebar. In other words if I add a widget the box surrounding the top item grows, if I delete a widget the box shrinks. How does one fix this? It seems to be a new issue for me. To see this in action -www.industrialstone.com
Any help would be apreciated

Thanks for the quick look. I sidestepped the issue because I installed Sliding Doors! It gave me a third column which I wanted, so no worries - again thanks.
