I see this was posted ages ago. Do you still want to know? I didn't get an answer either but I worked it out. Not sure if there will be consequences or not. There was a note in the code about it.

Yep it's in footer.php and very easy to remove.

wordpress is free and open source so you are allowed to remove the credit and not acknowledge them.

but they do say...

<!-- If you'd like to support WordPress, having the "powered by" link somewhere on your blog is the best way; it's our only promotion or advertising. -->

You teach wordpress?

I've done seminars too and here's a list of plugins I recommend....

Wordpress Plugins useful for Churches

Allows users to be alerted when a comment or new post is posted.
Email Users
Allows the site editors to send an e-mail to the blog users.
Google Event Cal
Puts a Google Calendar in the sidebar from a public Google calendar XML feed.
(Alternate way: use the RSS feed widget and parse the google RSS feed using feed43.com)
Page Links To
Allows you to point WordPress pages to a post or URL of your choosing. Good for setting up links to categories like sermons, or to off-site resources like a facebook page.

Add sermons to your Wordpress blog.
Sermon Borwser
Upload and organise sermons by categories.
WPAudioplayer
Play sermons from blog (use the new beta version from wpaudioplayer.com)
Wordpress Download Monitor
Manage downloads of resources. Better than download manager.
Simple Facebook Like Widget
Adds a footer link to add the current post or page to a Facebook Mini-Feed.
Tweet This
Adds a "Tweet This Post" link to every post and page. Shortens URLs. Can automatically tweet new and scheduled blog posts.

Like the Text widget, but it will take PHP code as well.

Reasonably simple and reliable way to backup your Wordpress database.

While i certainly needed to edit the footer I did leave the credits to word press and you in the footer. How ever I did pop my copyright on there as well.
