I'm trying to put my custom banner back up ( after I accidentally upgraded my highly customized theme. Doah! I sure do wish I had read your note first about not upgrading. :D
Anyway, the code in the instructions does not seem to match the code in header.php
Did it change with the upgrade? If so, how do I upload my header?

Also were do I go to resize the sidebars? My content no longer fits in the 3 colum layout.

OK, ugly hack for the image banner in the header.php, but it works for the time being.

<div id="wrapper" class="hfeed">
<div id="header">
<div id="masthead">
<div id="branding" role="banner">

<?php $heading_tag = ( is_home() || is_front_page() ) ? 'h1' : 'div'; ?>
<<?php echo $heading_tag; ?> id="site-title">
Delete all code in this span & insert something like this -> <a href="/"><img src="/path/to_your.jpg" height="xxx" width="xxx" alt="Description" border="none"></a>

Hope this helps until a more elegant solution is forthcoming.

New to the forum. I got the header image done. Unfortunately, it aligns left. Which line(s) of code in Header or Stylesheet do I modify or add to get it to line up in the center?

Found the answer in another post.
Add the <div align="center"> in front of the image source as below

<div align="center"><img src="/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/logo.gif" width="650" height="175"> </div>

@jake5000, thanks for that centering code, works like a charm.

I can also verify that my ugly header.php hack still works after the upgrade that was recently pushed out. That upgrade cures the ugly CSS voodoo seen in IE and Chrome from the previous version.

So, Happy Mother's Day to all of you! :D

Hey, all

I finally got my custom image header inserted onto my website and was also able to center align it.

Here's a link to my site to show what it currently looks like:

However, as you'll notice, I can't get rid of the header text that shows up below it.

Actually, what I would like is for the description (in small white font) to remain but for the large text in black to disappear (where it says The Culinary Curio).

I looked over several of the header topic threads, including this one and I am still confused because each time there's a solution presented, it is presented to someone else's unique problem. I never had an issue with a vertical line showing up, for example. At least in FireFox I haven't.

So for now I just need help only with this issue explained above.

I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer to provide a solution to this problem I am having. Thanks in advance.

I have entered my header image and made my site title and description "invisible." Everything is working great in chrome, firefox, opera and safari ... however in Internet Explorer my site title and description are still showing over top of my background image. I don't want to totally get rid of them for SEO purposes, and would prefer not to just move them over -5000px ... does anyone have any other suggestions of what i can do to make the site title and description invisible in internet explorer?
Thanks much!

Running into some issues, and I'm so impressed with those helping out with this! I can't get this to work so I figured I'd post what I have so far in visual form as well as the code. I'd like to place an image as a header. I don't care if the text stays there or not...I can work around it or just add it in with Photoshop. I WOULD like to make the image clickable.

Here is the code I likely butchered to death in my styles.css file:

/* =Header
-------------------------------------------------------------- */

/*as say before by kckal */

width: 940px;
height: 40px;
display: block;
background: url(wp-content/uploads/2011/05/banner.png) no-repeat top center; /

/*following code is already there, keep it*/

text-align: center;
position: absolute;
margin-top: 25px;
margin-left: 300px;
margin-right: 0;

/*following code is to hide the title and description without really hide them, because Google don't like the "display", so we put them far away */

#welcomeheading h1 a {
position: absolute;
left: -5000px;
top: -5000px;
text-indent: -5000px;}

I feel like I'm on a search and destroy mission. :D Is there a cliff notes version on how to do this? I don't know where to put the various codes in either the header.php or style.css sheets, I get internal server errors at times when trying things out, etc. I'm able to reverse the damage, so that's all good. I just need a very simple and direct instruction booklet on how to add an image. (It's my bipolar and ADD kicking in, ya know.) Anyhoo, any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
