Changing the number of images

Any questions about styling and customising the layout, changing the number of columns, changing the number of sliding images and so on.

Hi,

This may sound a little amateurish but I'm unable to change the number of images. Have tried changing the code in the replies where I can but finding it a little complicated. Any chance I could be given step by step instructions; I've got no problem editing the code just need to know exactly where and what!

Thanks,
Paul

I just CANNOT find the imagemenu.css. I have looked through every possible Template and Style and cannot find "#imageMenu ul li a {" anywhere. Can someone please dummy this down for me and tell me how to get there step by step. Thanks.

Hey all,

I've got the 3.0.8 Version of Sliding doors and I want to add one or two images in the slides.
I don't know how to do that. I have looked for solutions in few forums but didn't find any answers.

Can you help a little old french who knows css and psp language like a cow ?

Thanks... ;)

@opedia - The imagemenu.css is accessed through the FTP and not the WordPress editor.

@Pascool - Images are added to the slider through the page's Feature Image. Upload the images you want to use to the media gallery then add them as the Feature Image for each page.

Hope that helps you both out.

Thanks you for your answer, Tommy, but this is not my problematic. I want to add one or two image, on the slide, to have a slide composed, for exemple, of 8 or 9 images, instead of 7 normaly.

like this picture

Thanks

From 7 to 8 images in the slide... SOLUTION

Postby Pascool » Thu Oct 11, 2012 9:18 pm

Hey. First, sorry for my english... I try to be as clear as possible...

Use an FTP connection with your site, it's easier...

You have to rewrite 2 files. You can do that with the application like smultron or your prefered Text Editor Software.

1/ functions.php (in the "sliding-door" theme folder)
2/ imageMenu.css (in the "imagemenu" folder who is in the "sliding-door" theme folder)

So, download this 2 files on you computer.
First, make a copy of those two files before edit them. It's very important, because if you made a mistake, you can re-upload the old not modified file in their respectives folder.

1/ In the imageMenu.css, change the ligne 43 (it's the line of the width of the " #imageMenu ul li a ". IMPORTANT. Don't change another line...
By default, it's writte : width:133px;
To add one image on the slide, I writte 116px on the ligne 43 instead of 133px.
(I try with 114px, with115 px, but it made a slide to short for me. The good for me was 116px. When I put 117px, the 8th slide disappears.
Perhaps you have to try 114px, 115px or 116px ...
That's all for this file. Save it and upload it in the "imagemenu" folder who is in the "sliding-door" theme folder with your ftp connection.

2/ In the function.php file, you can see at the line 306 and 307 :
306 <li class=\"bk6\"><a href=\"http://XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/7.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
307 </ul>";
Well...
Add this line between the 306 and the 307:
<li class=\"bk7\"><a href=\"http://XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/8.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>

So, now you have :
306 <li class=\"bk6\"><a href=\"XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/7.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
307 <li class=\"bk7\"><a href=\"XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/8.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
308 </ul>";
That's all for this file. Save it and upload it in the "sliding-door" theme folder with your ftp connection.

Don't forget to add an image (named : 8.jpg) in the image folder who is in the image "menufolder" of the "sliding-door" theme folder.

And that's all. Go to your site, refresh the page and agree this... ;)

See you

Pascal

never mind: "jugoretz" has the right answer. if it doesnt work the first time, restore all files and follow exactly what he says to do. I've added 9 images (vs. his 10) just by modifying the count where he tells you to.
the header.php is not part of the process - that is old and should be removed as a solution.

I have 9 images. I've updated the closed width to 103.
I've added images 8.jpg and 9.jpg to images folder.
I've changed the function.php code to add 2 new <li> tags.
I've added the featured image to each of the 2 new pages.

I'm still not seeing the 2 additional sliders.
@Pascool @Tammy

Anybody see what I missed?
Thanks!

Hi,
following the instructions (functions.php and imageMenu.css) and it worked fine initially for 10 elements (images).
trying to do it again but for 11 elements (yes...one more) but there no sucess.
would it be something to deal with the $item_count variable ?

the code under my functions.php has these elements changed :
Code: Select all
$item_count <=9

and

Code: Select all
$item_count == 10

and

Code: Select all
function no_sliding_menu(){
 $blog_url = site_url() ;
 $theme_url=get_bloginfo('template_url');
echo "<ul>
         <li class=\"bk0\"><a href=\"http://mac-host.com/support\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/1.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
         <li class=\"bk1\"><a href=\"".$blog_url."\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/2.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
         <li class=\"bk2\"><a href=\"".$blog_url."\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/3.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
         <li class=\"bk3\"><a href=\"http://mac-host.com/slidingdoor/slider.zip\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/4.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
         <li class=\"bk4\"><a href=\"http://mac-host.com/support\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/5.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
         <li class=\"bk5\"><a href=\"http://mac-host.com/support\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/6.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
         <li class=\"bk6\"><a href=\"http://mac-host.com/support\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/7.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
         <li class=\"bk7\"><a href=\"http://mac-host.com/support\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/8.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
         <li class=\"bk8\"><a href=\"http://mac-host.com/support\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/9.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
         <li class=\"bk9\"><a href=\"http://mac-host.com/support\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/10.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
            <li class=\"bk10\"><a href=\"http://mac-host.com/support\" style=\"background: url('".$theme_url."/imagemenu/images/11.jpg') repeat scroll 0%;\">slidingdoor</a></li>
      </ul>";
}

in addition to the .css (which is not a pb). However, no 11th image showing up and...worse... the page source for the index page does not refer to a bk10.

I am probaby overlooking at something but not sure what.

moving this one up...
appreciate if someone has manged to configure the images to be a number above 10 (I managed to do 10 but do not managed 11 using same guidelines)...or if there is a known limitation....in which case I can tweak the code.

==> Wayne perhaps?

After nites (and days) of check and recheck...i finally found the solution: in addition to all steps that i have described above....I realised I had forgotten to add items in the MENU section of the theme.
I am fine now...so fine that i will expand the number of my pics to 15...LET US BE CRAZY. :D
yes!
