Picture Perfect fixed width?

Postby mikeboas » Sun Jan 24, 2010 7:29 pm

Is it possible to make the Picture Perfect theme fixed width and centered, rather than variable width?

I'm thinking I'd like my new PP blog to be about 900 pixels wide. I could start hacking code, but I'm not sure where to look. Style.css maybe?

Okay, started hacking. Decided 1050 pixels would be better.

Changed the following:
min-width: 1050px;

And added the following just below:
max-width: 1050px;

But I still don't know how to center the whole page. Everything is aligned left.

Hi mikeboas,

Did you manage to figure out how to make the theme fixed width?

Cheers,

To centre the theme you probably need to put the whole thing inside an extra div wrapper, and then centre that div.

Lots of themes do this, download one that is like what you want and have a look at how they do it in the CSS and the theme template files.

"put the whole thing inside an extra div wrapper"

On which page?

I tried index.php but it didn't work.

Beddo:

Yes, see my previous post about adjusting the min width and adding a max width. That worked for setting a fixed width.

Just checking back to see if anyone has a specific suggestion for centering my fixed width Picture Perfect template.

Right now it's justified left. You can view it at http://philrosefilms.com

Was just wondering if anyone has been able to find a solution to this problem?
I'm currently in the same situation as the above poster... everything is fixed width but aligned to the left. Have tried searching through other themes to see how they have achieved this as suggested by wayne, and have tried my own customisations, but no luck so far.

as a way round is it possible to simply state the location of the slider on the left? I am able to do this in the CSS with the sidebar on the right but I can't find where to do this for the slider.

...any ideas?

All, wayne has posted a suggestion to download Firefox, and use a plugin that will allow one to see what CSS applies to which code. I'd check through the Forums here, find that plugin, and use it to find whichever div is wrapping that text. Center it, and have a cup of tasty beverage 'cause you're done.
