Replacing Title/Header with an Image?

Any questions about styling and customising the layout, changing the number of columns, changing the number of sliding images and so on.

Hello,

Thank you all for the input. I was able to change the header with an image, however when I open the page in Safari I get a little question mark in a box above the header image. Any idea why this is happening? Thank you.

This worked great for me. Thanks!

h0serdude wrote:It's exactly that easy. Here's what I did in the header.php file (notice I commented out part of it):

Code: Select all
<div id="welcomeheading">
<h1><a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>/">
   <img src="/images/banner.png">
<!--<?php    $replacethese = array('[',']');
      $replacewith = array('<span id="middleword">','</span>');
      echo str_replace($replacethese, $replacewith, get_bloginfo('title')); ?>-->
      </a></h1>
</div>

Here is the code that worked for me on my test site:
<div id="welcomeheading">
<h1><a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>/">
<img src="http://www.mydomain.com/test/wp-content/themes/sliding-door/BLI-Header2.jpg"</a>
<?php $replacethese = array('[',']');
$replacewith = array('<span class="middleword">','</span>');
echo str_replace($replacethese, $replacewith, get_bloginfo('title')); ?>
</a></h1>
</div>

HOWEVER, the Site Title and the Tagline are still visible. What change in the code do I need to make so these two lines of text go away?

Thanks John, that really helped me out.

I tried changing the general style sheet, but it was in the heading.php that needed to be edited.

looks fine now apart from a red line showing up around the image.....no just sorted that too by taking the <h1><a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>/"> link out.

Thanks again John.

thanks horse dude. This code worked I a was able to replace your code with all of the welcome code down through description. It still would not take out the heading and sub heading so i went back and cleared those fields in the general settings. Now i am on to changing the background and global font color.

Being new to all this, I'm totally in the dark as to solve even the simplest problems. My site is up. Images are posted within Categories but the rest remains a mystery i.e. getting my images onto the header,getting comments to work, and I know that is just the beginning.Maybe I'm asking for a lot of patience but any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. I have the feeling this could be a wonderful site if only I could get a handle on the basics. Thank you so much!

I have recently upgraded to Sliding Doors 2.6 & unfortunately didn't back up my site beforehand. When re-doing my site, I'm confused as how to get rid of "My Blog" in the header. I've figured out how to insert my logo, but I'm still left with "My Blog" on top of it. I'd like to edit it to read something different, make the text much smaller & also decrease the side of the width of the bar it's taking up. I've also got those pesky lines on the sides!!!

I'm pretty new to all of this, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!

Replaced SiteBanner Image missing after update

Postby russil » Mon May 02, 2011 3:21 pm

Does anybody else have a customized header jpg (ie site banner) that worked before the update but not after? I can't figure this one out!
Here is the code that worked before that, I guess, needs to be reinserted somewhere into the header.php:

<div id="welcomeheading"><a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?><img src="http://russiltamsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/website_title.jpg"></a></div>

Also I don't see welcomeheading anymore in the updated stylesheet. There is one short piece of stylesheet code that may or may not be relevant:

/* This is the custom header image */
#branding img {
border-top: 0px solid #000;
border-bottom: 0px solid #000;
clear: both;
display: block;
}

My site homepage is http://russiltamsen.com. Please help!

Hi,
I'm trying to put my custom banner back up (http://dashrconsulting.com) after I accidentally upgraded my highly customized theme. Doah! I sure do wish I had read your note first about not upgrading. :D
Anyway, the code in the instructions does not seem to match the code in header.php
Did it change with the upgrade? If so, how do I upload my header?

Also were do I go to resize the sidebars? My content no longer fits in the 3 colum layout.

Thanks,
Paula
