Linking slider images to website pages

Postby foster » Wed Sep 21, 2011 1:50 am

I have read the FAQ's and the only thing I can find there is the advice to create 7 PAGES and then select them in MENUS. However, in the video tutorial it says set up 7 POSTS.

I have set up the 7 POSTS, made the image FEATURED as advised in the video, and put the link in like this:
<a title="Gallery of our designs" href="http://www.coastermaxads.com.au/gallery-of-our-designs/"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-124" title="slider1" src="http://www.coastermaxads.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/slider1.jpg" alt="" width="320" height="200" /></a>

The images all appear on the slider banner, BUT when I click on a slider image in the website I cannot connect to the page direct. Instead, the image displays. THEN, when I click on the image I am taken to the page I linked to. I have busted my brain over this but cannot figure out why I am not linking directly to the page.

I have tried making pages but that didn't work for me either. Can anyone help please?

Found the answer!

Install the Page Links To plugin and then set the page address underneath the POST data entry box. Save and you can then click on the images in the slider to link to any page anywhere.

Correct, this is the way you can make your sliding images point anywhere, and if you point them to a category that is the way you get a category in a sliding header which is what a lot of people are having trouble with on this forum.

I am so disheartened ... I have spent the better part of the day trying to get my images in the slider (I am not a coder).
Is it possible to just get a streamlined list of what to do.

The answer was give and confirmed but it made no sense to me

Just do:
a
b
c
d
e
f
g
on what page and when would be of great help. if you don't say where to do what, I can't follow.
Thank you so much...my brain is so tired...

In case anyone needs help on this I just figured it out and it's simpler than I thought it would be.

1)Assuming you already have the pictures you want set up and showing in the slide show and the categories you want to link to set up, now go and install the "Page Links To" plugin.

2) Now, in WP Dashboard go to the "Pages" section and click "edit" under any of the pages you have created, each page you click on to edit will now have a "Page Links To" section at the bottom of the page where you can input a URL.

Now, in another browser go look at your blog and make your way to whatever catagory you want the picture to take you to when you click it. For instance if one of your pictures is "News and Information" and you want it to point to the "News And Information" category you have created go to the "News and Information" catagory on your blog and copy the URL from the address bar at the top.

You can now paste this URL to the "Page Links To" url bar at the bottom of the page you clicked on to edit in step 2. Click "Update" and now the picture for "News and Information" should now take you to the "News and Information" category.

Hope this helps!

I'm going to find how this works. Even if it takes me the rest of my life.

The last thing I'm looking for is a link to this mysterious plugin you're all talking about.

Please?????? (almost crying)

After 3 days I finally got it and boy do I feel dumb. This is my first attempt at a web page so its a struggle but fun.

To link to category or outside page you need to install the plug in "pages Links to" this adds the "page links to" box at the bottom of the edit page. I read this several times in these comment pages but it wasn't quite clear.

This is correct.

Install the pagelinksto plugin and point it to any website.

If that's too hard, check out the page links to documentation and play round with it a bit.

Also re-read the FAQ, it is updated regularly so the answer might be there now even if it wasn't when you first read it!
